Nydus Network Tactics

Zerg Nydus Network tactics are of vital importance to the player that is looking to harass their opponent or simply transfer their forces quickly around the battlefield. All warfare should be about victory. The prudent warrior will, therefore, be in a position to attack the unsuspecting enemy at an unexpected place. With this strategy, it is not difficult to see how victory is possible to the one who applies it.

The Nydus Network is commonly placed at the Zerg’s base. It requires the Lair in order to be created. Once constructed it allows for Nydus Worms to be created wherever the Zerg player has vision without requiring Creep or a Drone. Multiple Nydus Worms can be created around the map provided that they are built one at a time. These additional Nydus Worms would be part of the same network and would function as access points to the network. A unit entering a Nydus Worm could emerge from another Worm without needing to go through the Nydus Network building itself for example.

The creature formed by this building spreads itself forming a tunnel beneath the battlefield. Indeed within the tunnel there is room for the largest and smallest Zerg units to move around. The transportation of units is not instant however, each unit takes a fraction of a second to enter and exit a network regardless of its size. Savvy Zerg players would instead ensure that the largest units come out of a network exit first as they take the same amount of time to come out as the smaller units.

Creatures traveling through the network do so by going through the mouth of the Nydus Network or Worm. While in the system they will not be seen by the enemy and can therefore move to connected Nydus Worms behind enemy lines. Keep in mind that it is not possible for aerial forces to access the system.

There are a few other mobile units that cannot access the network at all. Spine Crawlers and Spore Crawlers cannot enter the network as they are considered mobile buildings. Units such as Infested Terrans and Changelings also cannot access the network. Enemy units that are being controlled through Neural Parasite also cannot enter the network.

The Nydus Network and Nydus Worm are handy for transport of Zerg units whether they are heading to the front lines or behind an enemy base. These structures should be created out of harm’s way as they have insignificant hit points for a structure. Units within a network will only be destroyed if the Nydus Network and all connected Nydus Worms are destroyed.

The Nydus Network can also come in handy for assisting drones with mining minerals and gas at remote locations that do not have a Hatchery for whatever reason. Drones can be rallied to harvest the resources and return to the network through the use of the SHIFT key however the unloading of resources will have to be ordered manually every time.
